How They’re Made

Wool sweaters are donated by Madison-area thrift stores and ReMitts’ supporters.

Volunteers launder the sweaters in hot water and dry them in hot dryers, causing the sweaters to shrink or “felt.”

Pattern pieces are cut from the felted wool, combining complementary colors and designs.

The pieces are machine sewn into women’s, men’s, and children’s size mittens.

Each pair is lined with cozy fleece.

Women’s and children’s mittens are embellished with buttons, which are also donated.
